WAR MEMORIAL WINDOW IN KINCARDINE CHURCH

On Sunday,Sir A.Kay Muir,Bart, of Blair Drummond unveiled a stained glass window in the Parish Church of Kincardine-in-Menteith,which was dedicated as a memorial to the men who lost their lives in the Great War.
The service was conducted by the Rev.GN Leslie,who preached an appropriate sermon and offered up the dedication prayer.The"Last Post" was sounded by a bugler of the Argyll&Sutherland Highlanders from Stirling Castle.
Surmounted with the words "Thine,O Lord,is the Victory" the window symbolises Warfare and Victory,and depicts the fighting and victorious soldier.The names of the men are at the foot of the window,along with the following inscription:-"To the glory of God and in memory of....who laid down their lives in the Great War,1914-1919.`Greater love hath no man than this that he lay down his life for his friends`"
The men`s names are:
David Bowie,Bankhead;
John Johnstone,The Gardens,Blair Drummond;
Robert Yule,Meldrum;
James Connelly,The Gardens;
Wm Millar.Coldoely?;
Nicol Graham,Summer Light? Cottage;
John Moffat,The Gardens;
Arch.Honeyman,Blair Drummond Schoolhouse;
James Morrison,Carrat Cottage.

Nicol Graham (of Sommers Lane Cottage) died at Lincoln Hospital 10th September 1916.

The Old Churchyard is in the grounds of the Blairdrummond Estate on the opposite side of the road to the church. Access is along a dirt track from the main road from Doune to Stirling.

His is the only CWGC burial there.
