Seaforth Highlanders War Memorial
Location: Next to village of Fampoux, near Arras, France
This memorial was built on the site of the 2nd Bn Seaforth Highlander's attack at Arras on 9th April 1917.
On the same day the 1/4th, 1/5th and 1/6th Bns in 51st Div. 7th and 9th Bns in 9th Div and 8th Bn in 15th Div. all attacked in the same area.
I have no closeups of the inscription but I have a transcription I will post later.

I'm sorry to say that on my visits to the area I have never visited this memorial.

It's a bit off the beaten track up a lane outside the small village of Fampoux.
When I was there it looked a bit unloved but it is near a small CWGC cemetery where you have to park so I assume it does get some visitors. If memory serves me correctly it isn't that far away from the 9th Div memorial at Athies.

The Seaforths also used a celtic cross for their Boer War memorial at Dingwall and the 78th Highlanders Indian Mutiny memorial on the Esplanade at Edinburgh Castle. You can clearly see where the inspiration for the Fampoux memorial comes from.

I believe the original plan was to have a copy of this cross erected somewhere in Scotland but in the end they put up copies of the same bronze plaque in Wick, Dornoch, Tain, Elgin, Stornoway and Fort George. I take it they couldn't agree where to put the cross so they erected a memorial in each main recruitment area (Wick and Dornoch 5th Bn; Tain 4th Bn; Elgin 6th Bn; Stornoway 3rd Bn) and at the Regimental Depot (Fort George). They also had the bay in the Scottish National War Memorial of course.

As far as I know there is no Seaforth memorial for the Second World War which covers all battalions.

This year I managed to visit the Seaforth Highlanders Memorial at Sunken Road.
The inscription reads:
IN MEMORYOF
THE OFFICERS WARRANT OFFICERS AND NON-COMMISSIONED
OFFICERS AND PRIVATE SOLDIERS OF
THE SEAFORTH HIGHLANDERS
ROSS-SHIRE BUFFS THE DUKE OF ALBANY'S
WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR THEIR KING AND COUNTRY
IN THE GREAT WAR
1914 - 1918
