The memorial lies in the centre of Furnace village beside the school, Furnace Inn and village hall. It lies on a triangular site at the junction of a subsidiary road that enters the main village road at an angle. The plan of the site and memorial is trapezoidal.
The memorial is set on a raised stone platform reached by several short steps and is surrounded by a low metal railing. The memorial is made of roughly dressed granite blocks with the main dedication inscription carved on a shield above the names of the fallen from WW1. A brass plaque below these contains a dedication and names of the fallen from WW2. The stone monument itself is 5 to 6 m high, about 2m at the back by about 1.2 to 1.5m at the front (the difference in the base at the front and back is because of the trapezoidal plan). It is surmounted by a stone cross which is perhaps 1m high. Unusually for the West of Scotland, it is not a celtic cross.
No Rcahms entry for this monument.
