Researching my father's family, his uncle was Andrew Ballantyne and I have found his name on the roll of honour thanks to this web forum.

Andrew's father was also the origanist at the church.

I have attached a card I found and was hoping someone could explain it for me, also is there anywhere that I might be able to find a picture of him, did they take group pictures as they signed up?

The Medal Index card shows that Andrew would have received two medals due to his service. i.e the British War Medal (silver) and a Victory Medal (gold), his service number and name will be inscribed on the rim of each. His family would also have been sent his death plaque, again with his name on it.
As MIC's go, unfortunately it only shows the bare minimum. The numbers and figures next to the medals just tell us in which medal roll books his entry is recorded.

Additional information: Son of Andrew and Margaret Ballantyne, of 10, Mansfield Crescent, Hawick, Roxburghshire. An employee of Messrs. Cook Son & Co., of St. Paul's Churchyard, London.
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Pier and Face 15 B and 15 C.

Thanks for the prompt reply, I just wonder where his medals have gone, I would thought they would have been passed down the family but they seem to have just disappeared more is the same.

Andrew's name is recorded on the Hawick Roll of Honour.
There is also a Hawick link to his place of employment in London but at the moment I can't remember what it was. Rolling Eyes
I believe that his parents are buried in Wilton Cemetery in Hawick.

Stephen,
I did see the Gala connection on Andrew's obituary but was too kind to say anything. Wink
